  • Commissioning is scheduled for the third quarter of 2020. 
  • The interconnection is comprised of a three-core 132 kV submarine-underground cable that has a total weight of 2,300 tonnes.
  • The route includes 41 km of cable laid on the seabed, at a maximum depth of 81 meters, and 12.4 km of cable installed underground in Menorca and 800 meters in Majorca.
1.6% up on the same period of 2018
  • Total investments reached €464.4 million, up 14.9% on that invested in the first nine months of 2018.
  • 31.8% of the total generation in Spain in September came from renewable sources. In the first nine months of the year, renewable energy covered 35.6% of the total generation.

  • 55.7% of the total electricity generated in September was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emission.

  • Of the cumulative total, €422 million correspond to savings in the day-ahead market and €106 million to additional revenues from congestion rents.
  • Thus, the mean absolute deviation in prices between the two countries has been reduced by 30% and the revenues for the Spanish electricity system derived from congestion rents have increased by 55%.

Electrical incident in Tenerife
  • Of the total, €181.8 million were allocated to maintenance work and €144 million to strengthen and renovate the assets of the high voltage transmission grid.
  • Since 2011, the Company has invested €2.2 million in the Granadilla substation, origin of the electrical incident that occurred last Sunday in Tenerife.
  • This is one of the eleven sustainability goals that Red Eléctrica has set with a 2030 horizon in order to fight against global challenges such as the climate emergency or social inequality.
  • Among other goals, the Group will integrate 100% of renewable energy into the electricity system and work to achieve gender parity in the management team.

  • The high voltage transmission grid in Tenerife consists of a total of 618.75 kilometres of electricity line and 23 substations in service.
  • The Chairman of REE, Jordi Sevilla, today signed an agreement with the City Council of La Coruña to set up in the city the exhibition that explains, in a didactic way and via an interactive journey, how the Spanish electricity generation and supply process works, and which additionally seeks to raise awareness among consumers on the role they play as key players of the Energy Transition.
  • 66% of the set of power generating facilities in Galicia is renewable, with hydro being the technology that represents the region’s highest installed power capacity, currently standing at 33.9% of the total generation; followed by wind energy, with 31.1% of the total. In 2018, more than half of the electrical energy generated in the region came from renewable sources.
  • The incident occurred in Moroccan waters, 15.4 km from the Spanish coast and at a depth of 490 metres.

  • All efforts are now being focused on sealing the cable.
