The Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez; Red Eléctrica's Head of Infrastructure for the Canary Islands, Daniel Pérez; and Redeia's Regional Delegate for the Canary Islands Ainara Irigoyen, have signed a collaboration agreement to carry out the project. This builds on the 2025 agreement under which Red Eléctrica developed the upgrade plans for the sports facility.
Under this joint framework with San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council, Red Eléctrica will contribute more than €73,000 to fund the lighting system and other improvements to the football pitch. The project forms part of Redeia's Comprehensive Impact Strategy, which promotes environmental and social initiatives that have a positive impact on local communities and generate shared value with stakeholders in the areas where Red Eléctrica deploys its transmission and electricity system infrastructure.
Furthermore, Red Eléctrica is currently building the Salto de Chira reversible pumped-storage hydro plant in the Arguineguín ravine. As the first large-scale energy storage system in Canarias, the plant will be key to electricity system operation, enhancing security of supply and accelerating the integration of renewable energy.
Through these combined efforts, Red Eléctrica’s footprint in Gran Canaria is transforming the island. Beyond reinforcing grid infrastructure to support ecological transition, energy independence, and economic growth, the company remains dedicated to social development through community initiatives that directly benefit local residents.
