On Thursday, the Castilla y León Natural Heritage Foundation and Red Eléctrica signed a collaboration agreement through which Redeia’s subsidiary for electricity transmission and system operation in Spain will drive improvements in sustainable mobility and tourism appeal at the Cañón del Río Lobos Natural Park. The agreement was signed at the Casa del Parque visitor centre in Ucero (Soria).

This initiative, backed by an investment of approximately 30,000 euros, is part of Redeia’s Comprehensive Impact Strategy, which reflects its commitment to the region through partnerships with local administrations and organisations to launch projects that create value for the region. 

Under the agreement, Red Eléctrica —which, like the Park itself, is celebrating its 40th anniversary— will provide electric vehicles that will enable the park rangers to patrol the juniper, pine, and oak forests without emitting greenhouse gases. This effort is part of Redeia’s commitment to the ecological transition by promoting more sustainable mobility. Park visitors will also benefit, as the agreement includes the installation of two powerful telescopes along the river to observe birdlife and enjoy the park’s stunning landscapes and diverse flora and fauna.

Nestled between the provinces of Burgos and Soria, the Natural Park is surrounded by vast flat moorlands, with the Sierra de Urbión and Sierra de la Demanda mountain ranges to the northeast. The Park’s main attraction is the spectacular Cañón del Río Lobos itself, whose striking landscape is one of its defining features.
