Red Eléctrica begins renovation works on the Rubí-Viladecans line to further strengthen electricity supply in Cataluña
The line renovation project, with a budget of three million euros, is financed by Spain’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
This week, work began on a 17.5-kilometre stretch.
Red Eléctrica, Redeia's subsidiary responsible for electricity transmission and system operation in Spain, has started renovation work on the 220-kV line connecting the cities of Rubí and Viladecans. The project involves upgrades along the line’s existing 17.5-kilometre route, without altering its path.
With a total budget of €3.04 million, the work aims to further strengthen the quality and reliability of electricity supply while modernising parts of the line infrastructure that require upgrading. In recent years, specific sections of the line have already undergone component replacements and upgrades. The current project, however, will complete a full overhaul of the infrastructure.
The development of this infrastructure forms part of the current Electricity Planning for Cataluña and is financed through Spain’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. Other key projects include the renovation of three historic transmission lines in the city of Barcelona, where Red Eléctrica has invested over €25 million; the Mas Figueres-Palau corridor to support industry in the Vallès region; and the new Abrera sub-station, which will strengthen Cataluña’s automotive industry. Overall, the Plan entails investments of more than €400 million in Cataluña, primarily to support electricity supply for industrial projects.
In this context and as part of its Comprehensive Impact Strategy, Redeia aims to generate a positive social and environmental impact in the areas where its facilities are located. For example, it has collaborated with the Vilanova i la Geltrú Town Council to install a photovoltaic pergola at the visitor centre at Platja Llarga beach.
