The President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, and Beatriz Corredor, the Chairwoman of Redeia, parent company of Red Eléctrica, have held a meeting to review Red Eléctrica's investments in the region.
The new infrastructure will enable the launch of strategic projects for the industry, the integration of renewable energies, and the ability to meet new demands.
Agreement for the creation of a joint working group to identify potential corridors within the territory with the goal of achieving the best environmental integration for new infrastructures
The President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, and Beatriz Corredor, the Chairwoman of Redeia, the parent company of Red Eléctrica, have held a meeting in Valencia to discuss the new strategic electricity transmission infrastructures for the Valencia Region. The main projects in the region are focused on providing electricity to the industry, enhancing the integration of renewable energies, and increasing the energy transmission capacity of the grid to ensure the reliability of the electrical system and to meet new demands.
During the meeting, the Chairwoman of Redeia outlined the new projects included in the amendments to the 2021-2026 Plan, approved this year by the Council of Ministers. These projects involve significant investments aimed at boosting the industry and its electrification, serving as catalysts for the economic revitalisation of the region and job creation in line with the ecological transition. Among other infrastructures, the development of the Saguntum 220kV/400kV substation should be highlighted. It is currently in the public information phase and is strategically important for the consolidation of major industrial projects announced and linked to the transformation of mobility.
Furthermore, reinforcement of the network in the eastern region has been approved in order to properly integrate these new demands, increasing the capacity of the Eliana-Morvedre 220 kV routes and updating the Eliana-Godelleta 400 kV lines.
In total, Red Eléctrica will invest approximately €62 million in the infrastructures associated with the new Saguntum substation, which will facilitate the electrical supply to the new industrial demands, thereby helping to drive economic development in the Valencian Region.
Additionally, the Chairwoman of Redeia and the President of the Valencian Community have agreed on the importance of creating a working group, involving various departments of the Generalitat Valenciana and Red Eléctrica. This group, established last Monday, will focus on identifying corridors that allow for the proper environmental integration of the new infrastructures needed in the region.
The current 2021-2026 Electricity Plan in the Valencian Region
These projects complement those already approved in the current 2021-26 Plan, sanctioned by the Council of Ministers in March 2022, where Red Eléctrica is making progress as scheduled. These initiatives are designed for the structural reinforcement of the grid, promoting ecological transition, and economic development linked to industrial demand and the electrification of the region's railway corridors.
One recent example is the commissioning of the El Serrallo substation, which is set to be expanded to accommodate the anticipated increase in consumption demand within the local Industrial Estate.
Moreover, among the projects Red Eléctrica is implementing in the region, the 400 kilovolt (kV) double circuit axes Platea-Requena and Morella-La Plana should be highlighted, with the latter already being executed. These are crucial for enhancing the reliability of the electrical supply and ensuring coverage for new demands across the Valencian territory, in a more sustainable and efficient manner. Additionally, Red Eléctrica is engaged in the electrification of the Zaragoza-Teruel-Sagunto railway lines, having completed the expansion of the Segorbe substation; and the Levante High-Speed corridor, aiding in the territorial structuring of the Valencian Community and its consolidation as a Mediterranean logistics hub.
Through these initiatives, Red Eléctrica reaffirms its commitment to the Valencian Community by developing infrastructures that serve society, aligning with its public service ethos.
Partnerships for a positive impact on society
At the meeting, both President Mazón and the Chairwoman of Redeia agreed on the need to carry out such developments hand in hand with society, based on consensus and respect for the environment, generating a shared benefit for the region.
In this context, during the meeting, a review was conducted of some of the key agreements signed in recent years by Red Eléctrica with the Generalitat itself and various local councils and entities. These agreements cover projects related to energy efficiency, environmental protection, cultural heritage restoration, and enhancements to municipal facilities, among other initiatives. Collectively, these agreements are valued at over €1.5 million.
Corredor also expressed her willingness to work alongside the regional and local authorities to continue developing collaborative projects that will benefit Valencian society within the framework of a comprehensive impact strategy.
