Informative sessions on energy

Red Eléctrica contributes to the dissemination of knowledge regarding the functioning of the electricity system by encouraging participation in conferences and training/informative sessions.

Red Eléctrica participated in 2018 in the “II Forum on the Clean Energy for EU Islands Initiative”, organised by the Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade and Knowledge, together with the Secretariat of the Initiative, on behalf of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission.

The meeting, held on 5 November on the island of Lanzarote, brought together over 100 figures from all over the world from political, technological, energy, business, academic and social spheres, such as the Director General for Energy of the European Commission, Dominique Ristori; the Chairman of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo; the Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Knowledge of the Regional Executive, Pedro Ortega; and the Chairman of the Council of Lanzarote, Pedro San Gines. Eva Pagán, Director General for Transmission, participated to represent Red Eléctrica.

This forum is part of the political declaration the European Commission signed in 2017, along with 14 Member States with island territories, to develop the Clean Energy for EU Islands initiative. The objective is to accelerate the energy transition in Europe's over 2,700 islands, reducing their dependence on fossil fuels, making better use of their own renewable energy sources and making progress in adopting more up-to-date and innovative energy systems.
