Almost 23% of the demand covered by wind power energy
Demand for electrical energy drops 6.2% during the month of November

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula was 20,432 GWh in the month of November, representing a drop of 6.2% with respect to the same month last year. This drop in demand was influenced mainly by the unusually mild temperatures registered during November. After factoring in the effects of seasonal and working patterns, the adjusted demand showed a fall of 3.6%.

In the first eleven months of the year, demand reached 228,954 GWh, 4.8% less than in the same period in 2008. Factoring in the effects of seasonal and working patterns, the adjusted demand showed a fall of 4.8% during the period.

The production of wind power energy up to 29 November represented 21.2% of the total production for the month, which means that there was a 36.9% growth with respect to November last year. This percentage, together with hydroelectric and solar generation, means that 33% of the total production was obtained from renewable energy sources.

From January to November 2009, the generation obtained from renewable energy sources has represented 26% of the total production.

New maximums in wind power production
On 8 November, new records in wind power production were registered: 11,620 MW of instantaneous power, 11,429 MWh of hourly wind power production and 251,543 MWh of daily wind power production, representing 44.9% of the electricity demand on that day. At 3:59 am wind power generation covered 53.7% of the demand.

The previous record for instantaneous power, 11,203 MW, was registered on 5 March this year, while the hourly and daily maximums were recorded on 22 January 2009 with 11,074 MWh y 234,059 MWh, respectively.
