Wind power production grows 32.8%
The demand for electric power drops 2,7% in October

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula was 20,328 GWh in the month of October, representing a drop of 2.7% with respect to the same month last year.  This year, due to the effects of the way the calendar fell, there has been a negative contribution of 0.7%, meaning that after factoring in the effects of seasonal and working patterns, the adjusted demand showed a fall of 1.2%.

In the first ten months of the year, demand reached 208,554 GWh, 4.6% less than in the same period in 2008. Factoring in the effects of seasonal and working patterns, the adjusted demand showed a fall of 4.9% during the period.

The production of wind power energy during the month represented 14.1% of the total production, which means that there was a 32.8% growth with respect to October last year. This percentage, together with hydroelectric and solar generation, means that more than 24% of the total production was obtained from renewable energy sources.

From January to October 2009, the generation obtained from renewable energy sources has represented 25% of the total production.
