Environmental responsibility

We are fully aware in Red Eléctrica of our responsibility concerning the sustainable development challenge. For this reason, we feel the environment protection is a priority commitment as our environmental policy clearly shows.

To ensure this policy is duly met, Red Eléctrica has in place an Environmental Management System that sets environmental accountabilities in all the utility's areas. This system was certified on May 1999 since it met the UNE-EN ISO 14.001 standard and is registered since October 2001 in the Eco-management and Eco-auditing European Community System (EMAS).

The Environment Department of Red Eléctrica is bent mainly on rendering technical support to all the organization units for their operations implementation.

The implementation of more environmental-friendly technical processes, as well as other research, training and communication actions, cooperation with environmental agencies, etc., show clearly our support to environmental protection, a field where Red Eléctrica is a worldwide leader within the electricity industry.
