On its road towards Excellence, Red Eléctrica made the decision to be evaluated by the "Club Excelencia en Gestión" [ www.clubexcelencia.org Open in new window ], designed by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM).

In 2011, Red Eléctrica has obtained the award for business excellence in the category "Taking Responsibility for a Sustainable Future", as part of the awards that the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) grants every year to the best European companies in the adoption of the most advanced management systems and business practices. It is the first time that the company decided to present its candicacy to these awards, considered as the highest European recognition regarding business excellence. In addition to this award, the EFQM has highlighted as "best practice" Red Eléctrica's, management not only in the category where it has received recognition, but also in those of "Achieving balanced results" and "Adding value for customers". Similarly, as a result of this evaluation, Red Eléctrica has improved its own national scores reaching 650 points.

In 2011, Red Eléctrica had the European Excellence +500 recognition renewed. The company was distinguished with this recognition for the first time in 2003, becoming the first electricity company (in Spain) in obtaining it.
