The efficiency, security of supply and sustainable development of the facilities are the axes on which the technological innovation of the Company is channelled.

The efforts of Red Eléctrica regarding R&D&i are directed towards achieving a position of international reference in this field, fulfilling the technological vision of the Company: integrating technological innovation and development as a strategic activity, securing a position of leadership within the TSO sector.

Red Eléctrica participates in diverse projects, mainly within the European Union Framework Programme for Research, related to sustainability and the integration of renewable energies into the electricity system. Similarly, it carries out environmental interest projects with the aim of making it possible for electricity facilities and the social and natural environment to coexist in perfect harmony.

The investment in R&D&i projects during 2010 reached 5 million euros, distributed across a total of 64 active projects. The investment represents 0.39% of the Company's regulated income.
