Access to electricity demand tracking and wind power generation in real time.
Access to e•sios, the system operator's information system
Red Eléctrica runs the power system, both on the Spanish mainland, as well as on the insular and extrapeninsular systems. In doing so, it ensures a safe, continuous power flow from the power generators to the centres of consumption.
Electricity cannot be stored in large amounts and therefore production must always keep abreast of consumption in a precise, instantaneous way, and this requires a constant balance. The role of Red Eléctrica as system operator consists in maintaining the balance and, for this purpose, it forecasts consumption and operates and oversees the generating and transmission installations in real time, thus ensuring that production planned at the power stations coincides at all times with the actual consumer demand. Should a difference arise between the two, it sends the appropriate instructions to the power stations to increase or reduce their output.
Red Eléctrica draws up the annual power demand evolution forecasts, together with the relevant cover, for the medium and long term. These forecasts are essential as regards drawing up the transmission grid development plans for the next few years, approved by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade.
Red Eléctrica likewise handles the so-called adjustment services, the purpose of which is to bring the production programs resulting from the daily and intradaily power markets in line with the quality, reliability and safety requirements of the power system. Adjustment services or adjustment markets involve the overcoming of technical restrictions, the assigning of complementary services and deviation handling.
Red Eléctrica holds the AENOR certificate for operating the Spanish power system as a whole, in accordance with what is set forth in Spanish Standard UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2000.
