Cecoel: Electricity Control Centre

The instructions issued by Red Eléctrica's Electricity control centre (Cecoel), for the generation and transmission system operation, are aimed to ensure the electricity supply security and quality. Generation and international exchanges are scheduled to meet both the demand variations and non-availability of generating units. Additionally, set operating values must be issued to the transmission grid elements that will keep control variables within the respective range established in the operating procedures.

The Electricity control centre is responsible for the real time coordinated operation and supervision of the generation and transmission facilities that make up the Spanish electricity system

The grid condition and its electrical parameters are continuously controlled by the Electricity control centre, with a telecommunications network, which will act on the control variables to uphold the supply security and quality or restore service, when incidents arise.

The Electricity control centre is backed up by a state-of-the-art control system, which is intended to manage the real time information received from power plants and the grid facilities. The gathered information will be submitted in an easy to understand graphic display to operators who will carry out studies aimed to ensure the electricity system security.
