Indicators

Red Eléctrica has always given solid support to sustainable development, assuming the commitment of being one of the companies that best integrate environmental protection into the regular performance of their activities. This commitment has led Red Eléctrica to define and introduce a series of indicators that make it possible to measure the company's environmental commitment.

Biodiversity: Protection of Birdlife
The objective of the indicator is not the marking of 100% of the lines that cross SPAs as not all bird species present in these areas are susceptible to colliding with the cables. At this moment the elaboration of an indicator that better reflects the marking is being worked on (for its calculation the areas in which species at risk of collision exist will be taken into account, whether they are in SPAs or not).

Emissions
The most representative emissions related to the activity are the SF6 emissions (direct) and the emissions derived from the losses in the transmission grid.
(*) In order to evaluate the SF6 gas emissions in relation to the total SF6 gas installed, it has been considered more appropriate to use the tonne unit of SF6 emissions instead of calculating them in tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
