Red Eléctrica works to achieve an efficient balance between the demands inherent to its business activity and the principle of sustainability, from a position of ethical commitment to society.
The Red Eléctrica Group shows its commitment to environmental protection, and to this purpose it ensures that all of the Group's professionals carry out their work reconciling the demands of their activities with the greatest respect for the environment.
This commitment is materialized in the Group's environmental policy, To ensure compliance with this policy the Group has an Environmental Management System (EMS) certified in May 1999 in accordance with the UNE-EN-ISO 14.001 standard and registered in the EC Environmental Management and Auditing System (EMAS) since October 2001. In 2004, Red Eléctrica became the first business group in the energy sector to obtain the environmental certification for all of its electricity transport activities and installations.
In 2005, Red Eléctrica entered the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Indexlist of companies committed to sustainability. In 2006, Red Eléctrica consolidated its position in these ratings for the second successive year, and in September it entered the DJS World Index for the first time.
