Environmental policy
The basic principles that govern Red Eléctrica's environmental policy are:
- To orient the Group towards sustainable development, seeking a suitable balance between respect for the environment, fostering progress and social welfare and economic interests, so as to permanently create value.
- To seek leadership regarding environmental matters of the Group's companies within their field of activity.
- To ensure compliance with the environmental legislation, rules and regulations applicable to the activities carried out and to adopt as many voluntary commitments regarding environmental matters as may be considered of interest.
- To guarantee continuous improvement, the prevention of contamination and the principle of precaution, in conformance with the objectives and capabilities of the Group.
- To foster research, development and the use of new technologies and processes, with the aim of preventing or minimizing environmental impacts.
- To contribute to a sustainable energy model, with an increased presence of energy generated using clean technologies and efficiency regarding the consumption of electricity.
- To develop and maintain a transmission grid which is environmentally compatible.
- To drive the conservation of the biological diversity through active collaboration in projects which help to halt its loss.
- To adopt a clear commitment in the fight against climate change, backing energy efficiency as a fundamental basis.
- To draw up and carry out ongoing action regarding training, raising awareness and motivation concerning environmental protection.
- To maintain communication means and channels to inform and liaise with interested parties on actions concerning environmental matters, driving collaboration frameworks with stakeholders.
- To consider environmental requirements as one of the criteria during the selection and evaluation of suppliers and contractors.
