Compensatory measures

Red Eléctrica works to maintain an open dialog with all of the environmental interlocutors and to create opinion and debate on the conceptual, legal, juridical and economic 'fit' of compensatory measures within the scope of environmental impact evaluation with special relevance to the effects on Red Natura 2000, in order to offer present and future orientations to its projects with sustainability criteria.
Red Eléctrica organizes and participates in a series of seminars that arise out of the need to resolve the complexity of the term "compensatory measures". To attempt to respond to this complexity, the following questions are posed:
- What do we understand by compensatory measures? Differences between corrective measures and compensatory measures.
- Compensatory measures in relation with Red Natura 2000: interpretation of Article 6.4 of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC). The coherence of Red Natura 2000, the regulations of which are laid down by Royal Decree 1421/2006.
- Difficulties for the design and application of compensatory measures.
- Technical and economic viability of compensatory measures (analysis of costs).
- Experiences in the application of compensatory measures in Spain and other European Union countries (examples of good practices).
- Effectiveness of compensatory measures. Need for follow-up.
- Procedure, competences and responsibilities in the application of Article 6.4 of the Habitats Directive.
