One of the environmental aspects most comprehensively studied by Red Eléctrica is, unquestionably, that of electric and magnetic fields, due to the social interest and concern generated by their possible health impacts.

Electrical installations, like any other apparatus operating with electrical energy, generate electric and magnetic fields of extremely low frequency (50 Hz). For over 30 years researchers have been investigating whether these fields can cause any kind of harmful effect on human health.

In spite of the fact that the international scientific community agrees that exposure to industrial-frequency electric and magnetic fields generated by high-voltage electrical installations does not represent a risk for public health, Red Eléctrica monitors all of the scientific conducted studies and makes great efforts to keep the administration and public opinion informed of their results.

In regard to electric and magnetic fields, Red Eléctrica works day by day to:

actively support research research,
know the values generated by its installations,
inform in an open and honest manner,
lead and form part of working groups,
organize seminars and congresses,
collaborate with administrations and institutions.
