Red Eléctrica Internacional is currently working through the Bolivian company Transportadora de Electricidad, S.A. Open in a new window (TDE), in which it has a 99.94% stake and the Peruvian company Red Eléctrica del Sur, S.A. Open in a new window (REDESUR), in which it controls 33.75%.

In 2002, Red Eléctrica Internacional acquired 99.94% of the stock in the Bolivian company (TDE), owner and operator of Bolivia's national grid, Sistema Interconectado Nacional (SIN), which caters to 85% of the domestic market. It has an open-ended licence and operates approximately two thousand kilometres of lines and 19 substations. The acquisition marked a major increase in the group's international expansion, reinforcing its position in the Andean area, where it already had a stake in the Peruvian company Red Eléctrica del Sur, S.A. (REDESUR).

In 1999, REDESUR, the consortium led by Red Eléctrica, won a private sector concession contract for reinforcement of the electricity transmission systems of Southern Peru. The system used is what is known as a BOOT-type contract (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) with a term of 32 years - 2 years of construction plus 30 years operating the resulting system. Red Eléctrica is the leader of the concession and its strategic operator.
