Red Eléctrica de España will take part, for the seventh consecutive year, in this year’s edition of the ‘Copa del Rey de Vela’ (King’s Cup sailing competition) through the sponsorship of the X-35 one design sailing yacht that bears its name and of the regatta sailing team that will compete in this sporting event, as per the agreement signed today by Eduardo Maynau, the Company’s Regional Delegate in the Balearic Islands, and Javier Sanz, skipper of the sailing yacht ‘Red Eléctrica de España’.

Through Red Eléctrica’s sponsorship, the Company will again support this competition which will be held in the waters of the Bay of Palma from July 30 to August 6.

The ‘Red Eléctrica de España’ one design sailing yacht will again have a crew skippered by Javier Sanz, President of the Royal Sailing Club (RCN) of Palma and President of the Organising Committee of the Copa del Rey.  The yacht’s crew has gained extensive experience and knowledge through their participation in the previous six editions, and whose expertise led them to achieving first place in its class in 2015.

Similarly, as it did in the previous two editions, Red Eléctrica will again sponsor the ‘Enlace’ Trophies that will be awarded to the crews who, at the midpoint of the competition, are leading the competition standings in their class. The name of the trophies awarded is in reference to the submarine electricity interconnection projects between the islands undertaken by the Company in the Balearic Islands and which are essential for ensuring the electricity supply in the Balearic Islands.

Through this agreement, Red Eléctrica renews its social commitment to the Balearic Islands and its support for sport and the Copa del Rey; the sailing competition par excellence of Spain and Europe, and one of the most important events in the Islands.
