In recognition for the electricity interconnection through the eastern Pyrenees
Red Eléctrica de España and Réseau de Transport d’Électricité awarded the ‘Dialogue’ Award

Red Eléctrica de España (REE) and Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) have been awarded the 2015 ‘Dialogue’ Award for the Spain-France electricity interconnection project through the eastern Pyrenees. Red Eléctrica’s Chairman, José Folgado, accompanied by the CEO of the Company, Juan Lasala, and the Chairman of the RTE Management Board, François Brottes, received the award from the President of the Award Committee, Jean-René Fourtou, at the head office of the Embassy of Spain in France. Alberto Nadal, Secretary of State for Energy, attended the event on behalf of the Spanish Government

The jury highlighted that this project is the result of the work, effort and enthusiasm of the two companies, and reinforces their commitment to advance toward the ongoing strengthening of trans-Pyrenean energy interconnections.

The electrical power line between the towns of Santa Llogaia in Spain and Baixas in France has been in commercial operation since last October 5 and, under favourable operating conditions, it will double the electricity exchange capacity between the two countries, from 1,400 to 2,800 megawatts, furthermore it increases the security, stability and quality of power supply in the two countries.

The project, which began in 2008, has been technological challenge for both Red Eléctrica de España and Réseau de Transport d'Électricité and symbolizes the three pillars of the European energy policy, as it contributes to increasing security of supply of electricity in Europe, to the fight against climate change and the development of the single European electricity market.

The ‘Dialogue’ Award recognizes the efforts of individuals, companies and institutions in the development and coming together of the relations between Spain and France. Created by the association of Spanish-French friendship of the same name, its goal is to promote cooperation between the two countries in the cultural, economic, social and educational fields.
