Red Eléctrica in the International Year of Light

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies. In order to organise activities and publicise this international celebration, the Spanish Committee for the International Year of Light has been set up in Spain.

Red Eléctrica de España is collaborating with the Spanish Committee for the International Year of Light, through its participation on the Honorary Committee, chaired by Spain’s Queen Leticia, and is playing a key role as a sponsor, by means of its support in running the activities scheduled by the organisation.

Furthermore, in collaboration with institutions in various fields, Red Eléctrica has designed a programme of activities nationwide, aimed at disseminating the importance of the contribution of light and electricity towards the progress of society, as well as the importance of achieving a sustainable energy model. Among these activities, noteworthy is the collaboration on travelling exhibitions on the theme of light, such as Movilab, a scientific laboratory set up in a lorry trailer, which will end its tour in December in Alcobendas in the Community of Madrid.

Additionally, Red Eléctrica is going to carry out projects aimed at improving lighting and sustainable energy use, in Spain’s architectural heritage and other facilities, by installing intelligent lighting.
