Demand for electrical energy fell 2.6% in December

The demand for electrical energy on the Spanish peninsula in the month of December, after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, fell 2.6% with respect to the same month last year. Gross demand for the month was 21,229 GWh, a value 2.5% lower than the figure for December 2013.

Over this twelve-month period and after having factored in the seasonal and working patterns, consumption was 0.2% lower than last year. The gross demand for electrical energy in this period stood at 243,366 GWh, down 1.2% on the same period in 2013.

Production coming from wind power during this month (up to the 30th) reached 4,668 GWh, 1.4% down on the same period last year, and represented 22.1% of the total production.

In the month of December, generation coming from renewable energy sources reached 41.5% of production.

61% of electricity generation during the month was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
